Consumer Tip #1: Does the law firm actually handle cases, or send all of them to other firms?
Not
all law firms actually practice law. Instead, some law firms that
advertise heavily simply sign cases and then send or “refer” all of them
to other firms to handle the actual legal work, taking a percentage of
the case result for themselves. In some cases, a law firm may be too
small or lack the expertise to take on a complex mesothelioma case.
Smaller, less specialized firms typically refer mesothelioma cases to
bigger law firms, like Baron and Budd, that are better equipped to
handle a mesothelioma lawsuit from start to finish.
Consumer Tip #2: Does the law firm really care about mesothelioma patients?
Only
a handful of law firms care enough to give back to the cause of
mesothelioma, helping support research for new treatments or advocacy
efforts. Baron and Budd has a history of giving back and was a
cornerstone donor and Executive Advisory Board member of the
International Mesothelioma Program (IMP) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
in Boston. The firm has also donated
generously to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) and the
Lung Cancer Alliance. The firm’s President and Managing Shareholder
Russell Budd currently serves on the Foundation Board of the National
Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and Baron and Budd has sponsored two
books on mesothelioma: the NCCN Patient Guidelines for Mesothelioma and
Cure magazine's Understanding Mesothelioma.
Consumer Tip #3: Does the law firm have a history of working on mesothelioma cases?
Baron
and Budd was one of the first law firms to ever successfully litigate
an asbestos case, and continues to fight for asbestos victims today.
Because of the firm’s 30-year history of dealing with the asbestos
companies, the mesothelioma lawyers at Baron and Budd have gained a
great deal of respect in the courtroom and even with the defendants, so
many times asbestos companies prefer to reach agreements out of court
(which is to the client's advantage) when Baron and Budd is representing
the mesothelioma client. Also, as a firm that has a long-standing
relationship with many asbestos bankruptcy trusts, Baron and Budd can
typically secure more bankruptcy funds for clients than other
mesothelioma law firms. The firm's database, built over 30 years of
working on cases, is available to anyone who hires the mesothelioma
lawyers at Baron and Budd.
